Huxford assumes command of South Dakota Army National Guard’s 109th Regional Support Group
Huxford succeeds Col. Jason Kettwig, who led the 109th RSG from May 2024 through July 2026. The change of command was effective Aug. 1.
Kettwig’s command included support for the deployment and redeployment of the 129th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment and 665th Support Maintenance Company; the 152nd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion’s Joint Readiness Training Center rotation; and joint reception, staging, onward movement, and integration operations during Exercise Vibrant Response. During the exercise, the RSG processed more than 1,100 service members across four support areas.
The passing of the organizational colors symbolized the transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability from Kettwig to Huxford.
“To the Soldiers and the leaders of the 109th, this is your unit, and I’m here to serve you, to support you and make sure that you have what you need to succeed,” Huxford said. “Training is not something that we check off of a checklist. It is the foundation of everything that we do.”
Brig. Gen. David Dailey, South Dakota National Guard assistant adjutant general for Army, recognized Kettwig’s leadership and expressed confidence in Huxford.
“I’m thanking you for doing your job well. I didn’t have to be in there to try to give you guidance,” Dailey said of Kettwig. “I really appreciate that.”
“I know Huxford, he’ll take what has got started and just continue to drive on and get it done,” Dailey said.
As Kettwig concluded his remarks, he encouraged Soldiers and leaders to sustain their focus on readiness, training and family preparedness.
“Don’t let a day slip by without doing the best you can to train your Soldiers,” Kettwig said. “Have your family as mentally and physically prepared as you are for the unpredictable nature of the world we live in.”
Huxford enlisted in the South Dakota Army National Guard in 1995 and received his commission through the University of South Dakota Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program in 2001. His previous assignments with the 109th RSG include plans, logistics, operations, training and administrative officer positions.
The 109th RSG provides command and sustainment support to South Dakota Army National Guard units.
